Haas asked Alfa Romeo to delay driver announcement | F1 News by PlanetF1
Guenther Steiner asked Alfa Romeo to hold off on announcing their 2021 drivers as that has all but confirmed Mick Schumacher will be heading to Haas.
Both Alfa Romeo and Haas, Ferrari-powered teams, have been named as possible destinations for Schumacher who is expected to step up into Formula 1 next season.
The 21-year-old German, one of Ferrari’s juniors, is leading the Formula 2 championship with two rounds remaining.
However, even if he doesn’t win the title, he is still believed to be heading to Formula 1 next season.
The only question was will it be with Alfa Romeo or Haas.
Alfa Romeo ended that speculation last week when the team announced that Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi had re-signed for 2021.
Schumacher is now expected to head to Haas but Steiner is not yet ready to reveal his 2021 line up.
“I asked Fred (Vasseur, Alfa team manager) to wait to make his announcement but it apparently did not work,” he told Ekstra Bladet.
He added: “Mick is a Ferrari driver. A lot is going on, but he is their driver and not mine.”

Haas fans may have to wait until the end of this season in mid-December to learn who will replace Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen.
Both current drivers have been told 2020 will be their final season with Haas with the American team going for an all-new line up for next year.
Steiner added: “My plan is still that we do not announce our drivers until the season is over.
“Of course, fans want to know, but it also applies internally.
“The drivers are the most important people on the team. To ensure a good team spirit, we also need to tell the people as quickly as possible what is happening.”
Schumacher is expected to be one half of an all rookie line up with Haas reportedly keen on signing either Nikita Mazepin or Callum Ilott.
