Persistent lower back pain though could be an early warning sign of kidney cancer.
Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is also called hypernephroma, renal adenocarcinoma, or renal or kidney cancer with roughly 41 percent of people with RCC reporting back pain.
The pain, however, is often only felt until the cancer is in its later stages and can be described as a dull ache to a sharp stab on one side of the flank or below the ribs on the back.

Imaging tests: Some doctors use an ultrasound to assess the kidneys’ structure and size.
