Watch an 1100-HP Porsche 911 Turbo Rip a Huge Wheelie
It’s not hard to find videos of stock-looking street cars lifting their front wheels at a drag strip. Put enough power to the rear wheels of anything and you can make it happen. Add in a the rear-engine layout of a Porsche 911 and it becomes even easier. That’s why we’ve already seen 911’s lifting tires at the strip. Yet this video, flagged to us by the Apex Automotor Facebook group, still stands out.
At 7:04 in the admittedly long video, you see a 911 do a wheelie. Instead of lifting its tires an inch or two off the ground briefly, though, its nose rockets at least a few feet into the air. Then, as the car shifts and the tires smack back into the ground, it bounces before finally getting all four tires firmly hooked up.
To make a massive wheelie like that possible, the 911—according to the video title—is making 1100 wheel horsepower. That puts the crank horsepower well above 1200, which is truly insane. And though a new Porsche doesn’t look slow by any means, nobody would expect a car that looks this tame to rocket off the line like this.
