The Vanderhall Brawley Electrifies the Side-By-Side

Vanderhall Motor Works is known for its radically designed three-wheeled autocycles priced from under $30,000. The growing popularity of these unique machines has led the Utah-based company to expand its market across America, including Europe and the Middle East. Vanderhall recently added a new electric powertrain with the Edison2 and is shaking things up again by introducing its first four-wheeled EV model, the Vanderhall Brawley side-by-side ATV.

The handsome Brawley is coming to the lineup for the 2022 model year and will be available in several specs. The top-grade Brawley GTS has four inboard electric motors, one at each wheel and individually controlled, and a 60-kWh battery pack. It generates a total combined output of 400 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque.

The Brawley GTS can travel up to an estimated range of over 200 miles on a single charge. Its 300-volt system architecture allows the battery to charge to 80 percent capacity at a DC fast charging station in under an hour. And just like in standard battery electric vehicles (BEVs), the Brawley benefits from regenerative braking. Riding on 18-inch wheels wrapped in beefy 35-inch tires, the GTS provides 22 inches of suspension travel.

Besides its appealing looks and stellar range, what’s even more exciting about the Brawley GTS is that it seats four adult passengers. The fully enclosed all-electric off-roader features a heated and air-conditioned cabin and can go topless with a removable roof section. A fixed glass acts as a moonroof allowing front passengers to soak up the sun.

Inside, the minimalist interior does away with all gadgetry except for the instrument cluster and a single unit embedded in the dashboard that houses the HVAC, headlights, and audio controls. Moreover, it comes equipped with heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a Bluetooth-ready Kicker audio system, and a ViDAR optical radar system. The doors do not have traditional handles and feature an über-cool see-through section.

For all the cool features it does have, the Brawley is not intended to be an automobile. It doesn’t have airbags, or meet federal safety standards, and Vanderhall notes you should wear a full-face helmet when operating it. In most places, that means the Brawley will be limited to off-road use only, just like other side-by-sides, but on-road legality varies by location. Check your local laws for more info.
