The $5.4 Million Bugatti Divo Is Engineered to Do What the Chiron Cannot
A Bugatti Chiron with a lower top speed might not make sense at first glance, especially considering its price tag north of $5 million, but it does make sense to Bugatti buyers. The French automaker took the wraps off the Divo at the Pebble Beach Concours just two years ago—a span of time that already feels like a decade ago—but that’s how long it took to fine-tune the Chiron-based hypercar for the road.
The point of the Divo is handling agility rather than flat-out top speed, and Bugatti designed this particular model to do things that the Chiron itself might not feel as comfortable doing out on the open road.
For starters, Bugatti found a way to add 198 pounds of downforce to the car while losing 77 pounds in curb weight, all while tweaking the handling characteristics of the super-coupe. This included keeping brake and tire temperature in check, all while giving the steering a little more finesse than the Chiron possesses. The Divo will make the sprint from 0-60 in just 2.4 seconds and up to 236 mph—a bit south of the top speed of the Chiron—but its talents were designed to lie elsewhere.
If you’re in the market for a $5.4 million Bugatti tuned specifically for handling but not top speed, we have some bad news: All 40 examples have already found buyers. Buyers who already have the Chiron itself and perhaps even the EB110; the automaker hinted on multiple occasions that the lucky owners of the Divo are Bugatti collectors, but it’s not lost on many observers that collectors are not quite the same as drivers.
Will all Divo owners give their cars a serious workout at the track or on the road, or will most of these end up as collectibles that will hit the auction circuit three decades later, much like EB110 models?

If you ask us, it sounds like Divo buyers are hoarding Bugattis since they all already own Chirons. That’s fine: It’s the EB110 that’s Radwood-eligible at the moment, and that’s all that matters.
