The emblem number plate stickers will be changed to ‘UK’ from the end of September, ending the traditional GB sticker for good. The new design is thought to be more inclusive of Northern Ireland who is not part of Great Britain.

GB traditionally refers to England, Wales and Scotland meaning unionists in Northern Ireland miss out.

However, the decision has been met with controversy, with many attacking the new proposals.

One reader said the scheme was simply a move to “appease” the growing woke culture.

They said: “Getting rid of GB stickers is yet another action to appease the growing woke culture aiming to obliterate our Country’s History.” (sic)

Another added: “Will these stupid wokes never stop thinking up daft ideas.

“They just do it to provoke the sensible majority.”

Some even said the GB sticker was so iconic they would continue to use one even after the UK design came into force.

One reader said: “We need to stick with GB.
