Motorists in London see the most expensive car insurance rates in the UK with an average of £827. According to Rivervale Insurance, this is a 78 percent increase compared to the UK’s average of £465.
Manchester and Liverpool drivers, along with London, all pay over £300 pounds more for insurance than the national average.
In total, seven cities pay more than 50 percent of the national average, at a cost of at least £700.
The Midlands had three cities in the top 10, with Coventry peaking in fourth with average insurance prices of £765.
Wolverhampton came in fifth with an average price of £728, just £10 more expensive than Birmingham in sixth.
Nine of the 10 cities with the most expensive insurance rates were in the Midlands or the north, with London being the sole outlier.
Rounding out the top 10 are Bradford, Sheffield, Leeds and Nottingham.
Insurance in all of these cities costs a whopping £632 for just a year of coverage.
The Association of British Insurers also ranked the cheapest cities for car insurance.

Bangor, in North Wales, has the cheapest average car insurance rates with just £276.
This is a 40.8 percent decrease compared to the national average.
Bath came in second with rates of just £295, a decrease of £170 compared with the national average.
Carlisle followed closely in third with a yearly insurance price of £296, just one pound more expensive than Bath.
