Mazda 2 supermini gets range up updates for 2021
Mazda updates its 2 supermini with new 113bhp version and a new range-topping trim level
Mazda has given the 2 supermini a refresh, on sale from October with prices starting from £16,475. Changes include a new look engine line-up and a revised trim structure.
The new 2 retains the current car’s 1.5-litre Skyactive-G petrol motor as the sole engine option. However, a 113bhp variant reappears in the line-up alongside the existing 74bhp and 89bhp units. A six-speed automatic gearbox can be specified with the 89bhp version, but only manual cars receive Mazda’s M Hybrid mild-hybrid tech – aside from 74bhp SE-L models.

The engine itself has also been given numerous mechanical tweaks to improve efficiency. For instance, its compression ratio has been increased from 13:1 to 15:1, and a redesigned exhaust manifold has been fitted. The result is a drop in CO2 emissions of up to 14g/km, depending on the engine and transmission pairing.
The new model carries forward the subtle chassis tweaks from last year’s update. These include urethane rear suspension top mounts, revisions to the power steering for improved response and Mazda’s GVC Plus system, which lightly applies the brakes to individual wheels for increased cornering stability.
Kicking off the new-look range is entry-level SE-L specification priced from £16,475, followed by Sport, GT Sport and newly-added GT Sport Tech trim.
In SE-L guise, the new 2 is offered with satellite navigation, cruise control, air conditioning and Bluetooth connectivity, with Sport trim adding wireless Apple CarPlay.
GT Sport cars are equipped with heated seats, a reversing camera, a heated steering wheel and a colour head-up display. For £20,845, the new GT Sport Tech model brings additional kit that includes adaptive LED headlights, blind-spot monitoring, rear smart city braking and a 360-degree parking camera.
The updated Mazda 2 can be specified in 12 different paint colours, including a new Platinum Quartz Metallic shade added as part of the refresh, and will be available to order from October 1st.
