In Wednesday’s live stream, someone commented that David Freiburger was in the Naturally Exasperated class, an astute observation judging by his commentary on racers’ slow reaction times. David was jonesing for just a few reaction times less than a tenth of a second, and not many racers delivered. That wasn’t for lack of good track conditions, though. The crew at Lucas Oil Raceway gave us an excellent track surface for some wheels-up launches and fast times in all the classes.

Among today’s highlights, Joe Barry destroyed the centersection of his 9-inch launching his Ultimate Iron 1955 Chevy. Amazingly enough, a fellow racer had a spare that matched Joe’s rather unique spline count and ring gear size, and Joe was able to get back into the fight.
Dave Schroeder’s mid-6 pass kept him at the top of the Unlimited class order. In second place, Bryant Goldstone struggled with traction off the line in his first pass, but he got the car turned around and ripped off a 6.78 at 208.94 mph in his second trip to the line.
Unlimited class racer Alex Taylor ran a disappointing 8-second pass her first time out, but posted a solid 7.72 in her new 1955 Chevy right before the end of racing on Wednesday. Racers head to Byron, Illinois, for Day 4 of HOT ROD Drag Week 2021 tomorrow. Hopefully, they will avoid some of the torrential rain that plagued many of the faster cars yesterday.
