RAW Charging will offer drivers the opportunity to charge for free across its network on Friday to celebrate World EV Day. The charging network which includes popular sites such as McArthurGlen outlet in York and Cheshire Oaks, Greene King pubs across the UK and the Slough Charge Yard will all offer free charging for drivers throughout the day.

Free charging will begin at 12:01am on Friday September 9 and normal fees will resume at 23:59 on the same day.

There will be a mix of fast AC and DC Ultra Rapid chargers available for customers to use across RAW’s sites in the UK.

The free charging will be available through the ChargePoint app or by using an RFID card.

As energy prices increase across the UK, RAW wants to celebrate World EV Day by giving all drivers the chance to charge up for free across the UK.

An estimated 45 percent of drivers need to charge their EVs away from home.

RAW said it would continue to work with businesses across the UK to deliver destination charging to help aid the transition to EVs ahead of the Government ban on new diesel and petrol cars in 2030.

Bruce Galliford, CEO of RAW Charging, praised the move, saying it would help EV drivers massively.

He said: “We’d like to celebrate World EV Day by giving back to the EV drivers of the UK.

Between the end of 2016 and 2021, the charge point network grew fourfold from 6,500 to more than 28,000 devices.

Further growth was seen between 2020 and the end of 2021, close to 7,500 charge points were added to the UK network, a rise of 36 percent.

World EV Day is a global movement aimed at celebrating e-mobility and promoting the shift to electric vehicles.

As part of the day, people are being asked to join the pledge to “go EV”, either by pledging to transition their business to invest in electric or by committing to having an EV as their next car.

It has been celebrated by former Transport Secretary Grant Shapps who used it to display the public EV charging infrastructure across the country.

In previous years, car manufacturers have used the day to pledge to be all-electric by a certain year or to release new EV models.
