When E10 fuel was introduced as the new standard grade of petrol, the Government acknowledged that there could be a reduction in fuel efficiency. It said using E10 petrol can marginally impact fuel economy – generally around one percent.
This was said to be “almost unnoticeable” to most drivers when making every day journeys.
Rob Greenland said on Twitter that he had noticed a significant drop in fuel economy since he started using it.
He said: “A friend has been keeping track of car’s mpg since E10 fuel was introduced and reckons fuel efficiency is down by around seven percent.
“Does anyone know more on this?
“Is real-world efficiency being looked at – i.e. when does it become an issue if you burn more of a supposedly more ‘eco’ fuel?”
Other drivers have reported noticing issues with their own fuel economy, especially since switching from E5 to E10.
Twitter user, Simon Mack, tweeted at Boris Johnson, saying: “Please get rid of the E10 fuel.
“It’s rubbish and does more harm as people will have to scrap more cars and use more fuel then the old E5.

A second driver, Pete Moring, said: “Why is nobody realising that motorists are being systematically fined, financially broken, harassed and endangered off of the roads?
