Experts at Electrogenic have converted the classic Triumph Stag and Morgan 4/4 to run on electric power despite being built over 40 years ago. The Stag owners Club has confirmed the conversion is the first model to undergo a transformation to electric power.
Meanwhile, the Morgan 4/4 is believed to be the first professionally converted four-wheeled model for the brand.
There has been a recent resurgence in classic cars partly driven by millennials converting historic models to electric cars.
Young people say the older roles could make ideal city cars due to the introduction of new emissions zones.
This has driven up interest in historic models in drivers under the age of 40.
Steve Drummond, Director and Co-Founder of Electriogenic said their conversions still aim to ensure historic vehicles keep their originality.
He said: “Converting older cars like these to electric power is about using modern technology to bring out the best characteristics in the cars.
“For us, this means increasing power within the capabilities of the original vehicle, optimising weight distribution and not using too many batteries to keep the handling crisp and precise.
“Our proprietary electronics integrate the batteries and motor into a seamless system, making the cars as safe as possible.

“Our systems also allow us to maintain the originality of the rest of the car, which is a really important factor for us.
“For example, it means that we can repurpose the original instruments to keep the interior as untouched as possible.
“Ultimately, what we’re always trying to do with our conversions is to make the cars we’ve been entrusted with into ‘better versions of themselves’.”
To upgrade the Triumph, Electrogenic removed the 1976 models 3.0-litre Triumph V8 and installed a new ‘Hyper9’ high-voltage electric motor.
The 37kWh battery is capable of 80kW of power and 235Nm of torque powered through the rear wheels.
Electrogenic says the car uses a Type 2 charger which will offer drivers around 150 miles on a single charge.
An identical battery was installed in the Morgan which also comes with a 150 mile driving range.
Electrogenic said both cars were prepared to the customer’s specifications with every model they renovate made completely bespoke.
