The BCA has had to add a second monthly sale for caravans and motorhomes in July to “meet the demand”. They will also double the capacity of the sales as drivers are desperate to secure new equipment before heading on holiday.

Up to 100 vehicles are now offered on each sale with some road users paying up to £140,000 on new designs.

Motorists paid a total of £149,500 for a Carthago Chic E-line Motorhome in recent weeks.

This was the most expensive price the BCA has ever recorded for a leisure vehicle as part of an online sale.

The BCA said one driver had also paid over £97,000 for a Hymermobil motorhome with another paying over £85,000 for a Swift Kon Tiki motorhome.

Stuart Pearson, COO of BCA UK said the auctions offer drivers the “widest choice of vehicles”.

He said they would “continue to enhance the online sales programme” which offers orad users a “seamless digital environment” to buy models at the click of a finger.

He said: “BCA are committed to delivering the widest choice of vehicles in the wholesale marketplace to our buyers.

“We are creating a seamless digital environment where our customers can easily and efficiently manage their stock search, bidding, buying and post-purchase needs via desktop, mobile or the BCA Buyer app 24/7.”

He added “We continue to enhance our wide-ranging online sales programme which offers thousands of vehicles six days a week.

“Representing the widest choice of cars, LCVs, leisure vehicles and motorcycles available through a variety of online channels that support all buying preferences.”

Back in April, caravan rental service Camplify claimed 2021 would be a “record year” for bookings.
