3 Ways the 2020 Lexus GS F Sport Black Line Special Edition Boasts ‘Best Ever’
When you use the phrase “best ever” in reference to a model that hasn’t had a significant refresh in five years nor a full redesign in nearly a decade … and it’s a four-door car in a sedans-need-not-apply market … and it’s a luxury sedan already struggling for sales now facing a car-buying market severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic … well, you’ve got your work cut out for you. Then again, perhaps some elevated exterior and interior enhancements and the exclusivity factor of a very limited run will make would-be buyers remember what they liked so much about the Lexus GS back in the beginning.

Enter the 2020 Lexus GS F Sport Black Line Special Edition, which Toyota’s luxury brand is calling the “best ever” GS. The limited run is set to go on sale in the summer with rear- and all-wheel-drive availability. Pricing wasn’t immediately announced, but expect it to be marked up from the roughly $53,000 starting price of the “regular” track-tuned F Sport variant of the 2020 GS 350 propelled by a 311-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6.
Below are three ways the F Sport Black Line Special Edition makes its case to be the proverbial Best. GS. Ever.
1. Tarted-Up Appearance
The edition gets two exclusive exterior paint options with highfalutin names: Ultra White and Caviar. It also gets gloss-black F Sport wheels and matching front-grille inserts and black mirror caps — as well as a unique black spoiler on its rear end that Lexus says is “sure to attract the right kind of attention.” (Oh, behave!)
2. Cabin Upgrades
Red-accented door panels, steering wheel and center console complement black leather with contrasting Rioja Red accents on the bolstered sport seats. Carbon-fiber accents and Alcantara faux-suede trim on the instrument panel, console and armrest add to the upscale-athletic ambiance.

3. The Scarcity Principle
Despite that 10th commandment about coveting thy neighbor’s stuff, the grass always seems greener on the other side of that fence subdividing your parcels. And if your inner exhibitionist wants people around you to want what you have ’cause they can’t, driving a special-edition car should help make you feel special. Lucky you, Lexus GS shopper, because the F Sport Black Line Special Edition is getting a limited run of just 200 units — so the chances of you and the nabes having the same car parked in the driveway isn’t nearly as likely as showing up to prom in the same dress from Macy’s. (For even more exclusivity, you can even opt for a two-piece set of matched luggage from the Lexus-only Edge Lightweight Collection by Zero Halliburton … but that might be laying it on a little thick.)
