Volkswagen Teases the R Ahead of November 4 Reveal
The Mk8 Golf is on its way and VW insiders are calling it the biggest generational improvement ever in the Golf R’s history. Whether it lives up to the hype, we won’t know until November 4 (very early in the morning because of time zones).
What we do know is that it will be powered by VW’s 2.0-liter inline-four and VW has confirmed that it will be the most powerful production Golf ever to leave Wolfsburg. So that should translate to a relatively healthy bump over the 2019 Golf R’s 288 hp since the Golf R Performance was already churning out 306 hp in Europe.
With this teaser, Volkswagen has revealed that the Mk8 Golf R will get a torque vectoring over the rear axle. That means that power can be shuffled from side to side of the car, which should hopefully mean better track performance.
Like the GTI, it will get electronic differential locks and adaptive damping. All of which VW says will mean “optimal traction, precise and neutral driving characteristics, a high degree of agility, and, ultimately, maximum driving pleasures,” according to VW.
