The Land Rover Defender Lineup Expands for 2021
The Land Rover Defender’s return is big news. And it’s even bigger news that this British off-roader is, once again, making the trek across the Atlantic to American soil. However, you might have held off on your eventual purchase of a Defender because, well, the one you wanted didn’t quite exist. Well, for 2021, Land Rover is aiming to correct that and expanding the Defender lineup: namely, offering a shorter wheelbase, three-door variant for those hardcore Defender fans.
The previously mentioned, shorter, Defender will bear the Defender 90 badge and isn’t the only major addition to the Defender lineup. Land Rover is also expanding packages available to the larger, Defender 110. The Defender 90 is also cheaper than the Defender 110, which could be a selling point for many. You might think that the shorter, three-door Defender 90 was scheduled to launch alongside the 110, but the Defender 90 was delayed in the United States for, well, obvious reasons. The Defender 90 will start at $47,450.00, including destination.
Joining the option sheet for the Defender 110 in 2021 is the Defender X-Dynamic package, which adds some aesthetic elements to the Defender that essentially bridges the gap between the base models and the more upscale Defender X models. You’ll be able to see these X-Dynamic models from the outside because of their gloss black wheels, gloss black wheel arch claddings and “Silicon Satin” finished skid plates.
As you might expect, the powertrains remain the same going into the new model year. The turbocharged inline-four will still power P300 models with the inline-six moving P400 models down the street.
If you’re hankering for your short-wheelbase Defender 90, you can finally place your orders now. If you don’t need the extra storage, seats or space in your Defender, and you also don’t want to swing over to the Jeep dealer to buy a two-door Wrangler: The Defender 90 is here to give you all the off-roading prowess you want, without sacrificing your creature comforts.
