RBW's Electric MGB Combines Classic Elegance With Modern Sustainability

Known for incorporating electric powertrains into classic builds, British workshop RBW is now preparing its production of a modern take on the legendary British Motor Corporation two-door sportscar: the MGB.

Built with a cruising experience in mind, the performance specs of the current prototype EV Roadster is, without surprise, relatively modest. It comes standard with six lithium-ion batteries (upgradeable to eight) which combined push out a reasonable 94 horsepower, giving you an 80-mph top speed and 0-60 mph time of roughly nine seconds.

While it does seem to lack power, the standard model carries a range of 160 miles, that increase to 200 when you add a seventh battery, though no information was given regarding the mileage for the maximum eight batteries. It also boasts other modern features such as a bespoke double wishbone suspension as well as a regenerative braking system.

The interior is equally decked out for comfort. Vintage-inspired leather upholstery keeps the car’s classic look intact, while modern gauges, a multi-function digital display, as well as a seven-inch Pioneer infotainment system with GPS functionality round out the tech side.

With the current prototype now built, RBW is hoping to put the EV Roadster into production early next year, limiting it to a 30-car run. Pricing will begin at £90,000 GPB before taxes, or roughly $116,370 USD.

Elsewhere in the automotive world, Mercedes-Benz has debuted its own all-electric 4×4 SUV.
