Production Electric Crossover to be Called ID.4, Exceed 300 Miles of Range
Volkswagen has officially unveiled the name of its next ID electric vehicle. It will be called the ID.4 and it will be able to go more than 500 km (310 miles) on a charge, according to VW’s European estimates.
“The outstanding aerodynamics reduce the drag coefficient, and it will boost the ID.4’s range to up to 500 kilometers, depending on the drive package,” says Ralf Brandstätter, VW’s COO.
The ID.4 will be produced in Europe, China, and in the US. It’ll be the first fully-electric Volkswagen based on the MEB platform that we get here in the states. Unfortunately, VW still hasn’t fully revealed the ID.4 yet, so we have to guess what’s going on behind that camo, but it looks roughly like the concept.
We won’t have to wait long before it’s unveiled, though, because VW has promised a 2020 launch date.
The concept is supposed to make 300-odd horsepower and reach a top speed of 180 km/h (112 mph). Rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive options will be available.
