Next Ford Mustang Due to Arrive in 2022, Stick Around Through 2030
Despite rumors of its delay, the next-generation Ford Mustang may arrive sooner than we thought. Well, that’s if the details of a job posted to LinkedIn by Ford and a report by Automotive News are anything to go by.
Credit Mustang6G forum member “amk91” for spotting the Blue Oval’s job listing for a “Wind/Road Noise and Air Leakage Plant Vehicle Team (PVT) Engineer” While the job’s title gives little away about the Mustang’s future, its description reveals much more.

“Be part of the proud team to deliver Ford and Lincoln quality on the current model Mustang (S550) and the final sign off on the Ford 2023 S650 vehicle program,” it reads. Yes, according to Ford’s own job listing the next Mustang is due to arrive within the next few years as a 2023 model. Consider us surprised, because last our pals at Automobile heard, the S650 Mustang’s on-sale date was pushed back to the latter half of the decade due to difficulties adapting the new Explorer’s CD6 platform for pony-car duty.
A Ford spokesperson was unable to comment on either the job listing or the state of the next-generation pony car. That said, AN‘s latest report seems to imply the Blue Oval’s kicked the CD6 platform into muscle-car shape. Hopefully, Ford’s done quite the number on the underpinnings, too, as the next-gen Mustang will purportedly stick around through the next decade. Blame an anticipated eight-year life cycle—two years more than the company originally planned, per AN. The publication also claims the car benefits from a mid-cycle update come 2025.
Regardless, we anticipate the Blue Oval’s sports car will gain a gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain before the middle of the decade. Only time will tell if Ford opts to unveil the S650 Mustang in 2023, or if the brand decides to revise the current car and keep tinkering away at the next-gen model for a few more years.
