Listen to Aston Martin's New Twin-Turbo V-6 Fire Up for the First Time
Aston Martin dropped a video yesterday of its new in-house-developed twin-turbo V-6—set to power its upcoming Valhalla mid-engine supercar—firing up for the first time. We get to see the engine glow red as it climbs to redline and makes a vicious sound. Aston’s also revealed a bit more detail on the motor, giving us even more to look forward to.
The new V-6 is closely related to the 5.2-liter twin-turbo V-12 currently found in Aston Martin’s DB11, DBS Superleggera, and V12 Speedster. It displaces 3.0 liters, and has its turbos mounted in its valley (a “hot V” setup). It’ll also have a dry-sump lubrication system as standard, and weigh less than 441 pounds.
The biggest bit of news is the engine’s hybridization. From the release:
That means Aston’s new V-6 powertrain will be more powerful than even the 1160-horsepower Cosworth V-12-powered Valkyrie hypercar. Not bad considering the cylinder count and displacement.
