Japanese F1 Grand Prix Officials Suspend Ticket Sales; New Doubts for October Race
The 2020 Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix, a race that is scheduled for Oct. 11, is now in doubt after officials announced this week that they have suspended ticket sales.
Earlier, there were hopes October’s race at Suzuka could be safe, given Japan’s handling of the pandemic. Motorsport testing had begun taking place in the country.
However, organizers of the F1 Japanese Grand Prix now say that ticket sales for the fall race are being “postponed.”
The Suzuka Circuit was closed on April 10 and was originally set to reopen on May 10. That May 10 opening is now deemed to be unlikely.
Meanwhile, the F1 Hungarian Grand Prix has become a question mark. According to European outlet Bild, as well as a report by Autoweek’s Joe Saward, Hungary is likely pegged for a Formula 1 doubleheader, Aug. 16 and Aug. 23. The Hungarian government, however, has a ban on large gatherings until Aug. 15.
