IndyCar Grand Prix of St. Petersburg Features 26 Car Entry List
The 2020 IndyCar Series season begins this weekend with the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg in Florida.
The 26-car entry list is the most for the season-opening street course event since 2012. In fact, it’s only the third time in the history of the IndyCar Grand Prix of St. Petersburg that it has featured 26 cars.
The final TBA was revealed on Tuesday when Carlin confirmed the IndyCar debut of IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar championship regular Felipe Nasr for the team’s No. 31 Chevrolet. That car will host various drivers throughout the season.
Nasr first joined the team during preseason testing at the Circuit of the Americas last month and at Sebring International Raceway last week, where he was the overall fastest.
Meanwhile, the remainder of the entry list looks familiar.
Team Penske will continue forward with its trio of champions in Josef Newgarden, Will Power and Simon Pagenaud.
Andretti Autosport will feature five drivers: Alexander Rossi, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Marco Andretti, Zach Veach and Colton Herta.
Chip Ganassi Racing has expanded to a three-car team with Marcus Ericsson joining the returning Scott Dixon and Felix Rosenqvist. Sebastien Bourdais will run a partial schedule for AJ Foyt Racing starting this weekend alongside full-time teammate Charlie Kimball.
Dreyer & Reinbold Racing will contest its first multi-race season since 2013, entering Sage Karam in at least four races, starting with this weekend at St. Petersburg. Team owner Dennis Reinbold has been an Indianapolis-only team in recent seasons.
There are five rookies entered into the race: Nasr, Oliver Askew, Alex Palou, Rinus Veekay and Ben Hanley.
