The rumours suggest that Porsche is putting the finishing touches to its next Heritage car, one to follow-up last year’s reinvention, the 911 Sport Classic. That was based on the 992 Turbo, but the next-in-line is thought to be the GT3 Touring-based 911 ST. Can’t wait for that one, for sure. But at the other end of the market, Everrati Automotive has just announced its own reinvention of the classic 911 ST.
The original model was produced in small numbers between 1970 and ’71. It was a low-weight racer that took advantage of changes to FIA rules to include wider tyres for greater competitiveness on track. The customer racers weighed around 900kg and were offered with tuned, high-revving versions of the famous flat-six. STs proved competitive, too, at endurance races such as Daytona, Sebring, the Nürburgring and the Targa Florio.
Everrati’s interpretation doesn’t have a flat six, though. This Oxfordshire-based specialist in the integration of electric powertrains into classic cars has produced a zero-emissions ST, with an electric motor instead of the traditional air-cooled offering. Hold your horses with the booing, please.
No, the Everrati ST won’t rasp away from behind your ears, but to make up for that it does have 440hp going to the rear wheels via a limited-slip differential. That means it’s a lot quicker than the original, with a sub-four-second 0-60mph time. The 62kWh battery also gives it a quoted range of 200 miles, although probably less if you exploit that level of acceleration too often.
This ‘70s-inspired look is built around a G-Series car, and along with 21st-century propulsion it also has 21st-century tech elsewhere. Features that include AC and DC Fast charging, air conditioning, power steering, and Apple CarPlay. Completing the specification is the option of Tractive active and adaptive suspension, which we’ve tried on the Spartan featured recently on PH as well as the 911 by Theon Design we drove last year. In both instances, the Tractive setup has proved highly effective in terms of comfort and body control.
Speaking about its latest creation, Everrati Founder and CEO, Justin Lunny, said: “This latest addition to our leading range of redefined and electrified Porsche 911s is one that all of us at Everrati have had in mind for a long time – and are delighted to finally showcase. The original 911 ST is a legendary machine, ultra-rare, lightweight, the very essence of a motorsport-inspired Porsche. Our redefined version pays homage to that legend.
“Our expert processes and network of best-in-class suppliers and technology partners, such as RS Werks – who we are excited to be working with – ensures we can create an unrivalled driving experience that combines the best of classic design with modern, zero-emission, performance. We are committed to preserving the legacy of iconic vehicles while advancing the transition to sustainable luxury mobility”.
