Bentley Introduces Its 2021 Bentayga Plug-In Hybrid
Bentley has just unveiled a new version of its Bentayga plug-in hybrid vehicle, furthering the automaker’s goal to go fully electric by 2026.
Much like its predecessor, the incoming Bentayga pairs an electric motor with a traditional 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine to push out a combined 443 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. It also carries the same 17.6kWh lithium battery pack as the previous model, which gives it an effective range of 31 miles when running fully on electric — a mode which the company says half of the Bentayga PHEV owners use on a daily basis for shorter commutes.
Fully charging the battery pack only takes two and a half hours, and regenerative braking through the EV and Hybrid modes will replenish some of the energy used. To further optimize energy efficiency, Bentley’s own Hybrid Efficiency Navigation system can calculate which parts of your route will require different kinds of power sources, switching automatically between electrical power and the combustion engine throughout your planned journey.
As for its aesthetics, the Bentayga PHEV takes much of its design cues from the standard 2021 Bentayga, featuring a larger grille and wider wings, as well as LED matrix headlights and elliptical brake lights.
Bentley’s 2021 Bentayga PHEV is expected to launch in the U.S. by mid-2021, with a starting price of roughly $183,000 USD.
