1986: Would You Rather Carry a Civic Body or Drive a Plymouth Colt?
Sedans were all the rage as daily transportation, back in the middle 1980s, but what if you wanted one made in Japan yet with a price tag nearly as low as that of the primitive Chevy Chevette or wretched Hyundai Excel? A new Honda Civic sedan would set you back $7,499 that year (about $17,725 today), but the Mitsubishi-built Plymouth Colt sedan cost a mere $6,505 (about $15,380 today). One wonders if the ad agency really cut up a new gold Civic to make this ad, or if that shell is just a very convincing prop.
